A work in progress screening of the historical, hybrid AI-driven documentary short, McPherson: Major General. The film connects viewers to Major General James Birdseye McPherson, a remarkable yet little. known Union General who died in the Battle of Atlanta, but not before leaving a lasting legacy on the Civil War's outcome. Creator, Althea Brown will share her process for the project including the challenges and perks of using AI tools and software for historical documentary filmmaking.
About the Creator: Althea Brown is a filmmaker, visual artist, and two-time graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), holding an MFA in Film, an MA in Animation, along with a B.S. in Radio–TV Communications from Ohio University. She brings a rich, multidimensional voice to documentary storytelling, blending historical inquiry with innovative visual methods.
Her recent work, McPherson: Major General, is a hybrid AI-driven documentary short that immerses viewers in the Siege of Vicksburg through the real words of soldiers and officers, drawn from original letters, diaries, and reports. The film exemplifies her signature approach: memory recovered through a synthesis of voice, image, and emotion.
Ms. Brown’s past directing credits include the documentary a Trek to the River's Edge as well as a forthcoming series on healthy eating. Her work has been exhibited at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, in Times Square, and recognized by institutions including the Center for Civil and Human Rights and the Atlanta History Center.
